Sergei Shvemberger (1959-2018)
Born in Leningrad, USSR in 1959. Died in St Petersburg, Russia in 2018.
Graduated in 1982 as a mathematician from the Mathematics and Mechanical Faculty of Leningrad State University, then in 1991 from the graphic art faculty of the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where he studied under Andrei Pakhomov.

Member of the faculty of arts at Saint Petersburg State University and Director of its Centre for Contemporary Art (1997–2001). Graphic artist working in a variety of media, painter, sculptor. Interests included book illustration, installations, performance art, 3D animation, the use of IT in historical and cultural studies, 3D computer reconstructions of historical and cultural monuments. Created two 3D animated films: Erik (2009–10), and A Day in the Life of the Egyptian Pharaoh
(2011–12), both in collaboration with Elena Logdacheva). Author (jointly with Vladimir Goroncharovsky and Pavel Sherbakov) of the book 3Ds Max. Artistic Modelling and Special Effects’ (2005), as well as numerous academic publications on IT as a tool in the study of the history of culture. Participated in more than 100 exhibitions of printed graphic art and book illustration in Russia, Austria, the UK, Germany, Spain, Canada, the USA, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden and Japan.
His works are to be found in the State Hermitage Museum, the Russian National Library, and in private collections in Russia, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, and other countries.
