Luo Lei

Born in Gansu, China in 1969.
  
Began practising calligraphy at the age of 13. Trained under one of the most renowned contemporary calligraphers, Yang Hong. Luo devoted many years to Chinese calligraphy, painstakingly studying and copying old masters of the craft, absorbing the images of ancient culture and forming his own unique style. An acknowledged master of calligraphy, he has made an immense contribution to the development and propagation of this art form.

Between 1988 and 1995 he taught calligraphy in his homeland, and since 1996 he has lived and worked in Russia. He teaches at the Chieng Neng Li Russian-Chinese Centre in Saint Petersburg that seeks to expand cultural ties between the two countries and to acquaint and familiarize people with the values of Russian and Chinese art. He gives lectures and master classes in the art of calligraphy.
  
In 2002 he participated in the publication of a Russian translation of The Story of Yue Fei, a biography of a celebrated warrior by the Chinese writer Qian Cai, who lived in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. In February 2016, the Dreams of China exhibition held in the Saint Petersburg State Museum of Theatre and Music featured eight poems by the Chinese poet Du Fu transcribed by this master of calligraphy. Participant in numerous exhibitions in Russia and abroad, including personal ones.

His works can be found in private collections in Russia and China.
