THE PYTHIAN ODES
Triumphant choral verses by Pindar, one of Ancient Greece’s most significant poets, included in the in the canonical list of Nine Lyric Poets. The splendid images that he conjures up with the aid of bold associations and a rich rhythmical pattern are captured in the illustrations produced by the artist Niyaz Khaziakhmetov in the monotype technique.

Today we have 45 of Pindar’s odes – Olympian, Pythian, Nemean and Isthmian.
His language is full of bold metaphors, epithets, unusual word combinations and a complex verse measure. This blend coupled with a majestic musical-vocal performance produced a grand artistic impression. The poet enjoyed great fame, not only in his own lifetime, but later too – in Hellenistic and Roman times.
The illustrations were made in the monotype technique.
The text is written by hand in a cursive script using two colours, black and red.
