G. A. V. TRAUGOT

Alexander Georgyevich Traugot. Born in Leningrad, USSR in 1931.   
Valery Georgyevich Traugot. Born in Leningrad, USSR in 1936. Died in St Petersburg, Russia in 2009.
     
Alexander Traugot and his late brother Valery are/were painters and masters of book illustration. They always considered their father, Georgy Traugot (1903–1961), to be their main teacher and signed their first works, created in collaboration with him, using all three of their initials in order of age – G.A.V. The sons continued this practice after his death.    
Valery Traugot played a prominent public role. For 22 years, he was head of the Graphic Department of the St Petersburg Branch of the Artists’ Union, and for many years chief artist at the legendary Detgiz children’s publishing house. He was an honorary member of the Berlin Society of Friends of St Petersburg. Alexander and Valery Traugot have been awarded more than 30 diplomas in national competitions, including 14 top diplomas. They have taken part in numerous exhibitions of books and illustrations in Russia and abroad, including Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Japan and France.
   
Works by Alexander and Valery Traugot can be found in museums in Moscow (including at the State Tretyakov Gallery), St Petersburg, Tver, Archangelsk, Petrozavodsk, Vologda, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Ryazan and Kaliningrad, and also abroad (including in the Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Odense, and others in Japan, Germany and the Czech Republic), as well as in many private collections in Europe, the USA and Israel.
